North Santiam River Report - 09/01/2010
The N. Santiam is in great shape. Flow and depth have increased a bit the past week or so with the recent rain and run off from the creeks and other tributaries. Salmon and Steelhead runs are the largest we've seen in years.
A new practice this year is to release some of the top water from the upstream reservoirs in an effort to warm up the river a bit in hopes that steelhead smolts in the system will eat more and get bigger before returning to the Pacific. It has caused some clarity and debris issues, but if it's good for the fish, I hope they continue the practice.
